Aging Wisely: Fall Prevention is a special television program produced by the Pierce County Fall Prevention Coalition and sponsored by Pierce County Human Services about preventing falls in daily life. Hosted by former KING TV anchor Dennis Bounds, the program introduces us to doctors and safety experts who have important tips to share. Plus, see a few exercises that can be done standing or sitting at home, or with an exercise class. The good news – everyone is capable of preventing a fall.

Our home office is sponsoring this virtual event and our presenter, Heather McKay, PhD/OT/L, has professional and clinical experience in supporting older adults and their fall risk.

By the end of this educational program, participants will better understand the prevalence of falls among older adults with neurocognitive disorders, determinants of falls and fall-related injuries, as well as multi-component interventions to reduce the risks for this population.

This presentation will provide practical solutions that can make a positive impact on this patient population.

Advanced Care Planning Series: Giving Loved Ones the Gift of Getting Affairs in Order @ ZOOM

Join us for a weekly 6 session series focused on making since of advance care planning.

Topics include a panel discussion on myths and facts about death and dying, unresolved grief and unfinished business, death with dignity in the state of Oregon, ideas on how to handle the belongings we leave behind, and completing the end of life paperwork including advance directives and a POLST (and how to make sense of it all).

Training Title and Dates –

  • 6/3 – Panel Discussion on the Myths and Facts about Death and Dying. What are the experts seeing and recommending?
  • 6/10 – Unresolved grief and unfinished business – What it means at the end of our journey.
  • 6/17 – Death with Dignity in the state of Oregon – What are the facts?
  • 6/24 – Making decisions now, how to handle our collection and belongings we leave behind.
  • 7/1 – End of life paperwork? Making sense of the advance directive, POLST, and all the other forms of paperwork.
  • 7/8 – Now is the time, let’s complete the paper. In the final session we will be working together to complete the advance directive and reduce the the “bureaucratic hurdle” at the end of life.

Hosted in collaboration with the Oregon Behavioral Health Initiative specialists located in the following counties throughout Oregon – Baker, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Lake Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco, and Wheeler!

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to join the fight against the disease.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is happening — and you can join us at your local event or Walk From Home in your neighborhood. No matter where you participate, know that your health and safety are our top priorities. All local events will implement safety protocols including physical distancing, contactless registration, hand sanitizing stations and more. We ask that all Walk attendees be vaccinated against COVID-19 or wear a mask, per CDC guidelines around large outdoor events. Masks will be available on-site.

While there is no fee to register for Walk, all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support and advance research toward methods of prevention, treatment and, ultimately, a cure.

September 25th Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon is hosting the Sole Support walk in Portland, Oregon. This series of walks raises awareness about Parkinson’s and the resources available to patients and families living with this disease.

Parkinson’s Resources is an independent nonprofit serving 14,000 households in Oregon and SW Washington. Events like Sole Support raise funds for services critical to living well with Parkinson’s.

Presented by the Office of the Attorney General.
Program conducted in Spanish.
Federal and state laws require hospitals to provide Washingtonians certain types of medical care for free or at a lower cost, depending on income and family size. Charity care must be offered to people who cannot afford to pay for medical treatment. State law defines charity care as “medically necessary” treatment.
Understand what charity care is and get help navigating the sometimes-costly medical services you or your loved ones could face in a medical emergency. Get tips, resources and your questions answered by a consumer protection representative.

Advanced Care Planning Series: Giving Loved Ones the Gift of Getting Affairs in Order @ ZOOM

Join us for a weekly 6 session series focused on making since of advance care planning.

Topics include a panel discussion on myths and facts about death and dying, unresolved grief and unfinished business, death with dignity in the state of Oregon, ideas on how to handle the belongings we leave behind, and completing the end of life paperwork including advance directives and a POLST (and how to make sense of it all).

Training Title and Dates –

  • 6/3 – Panel Discussion on the Myths and Facts about Death and Dying. What are the experts seeing and recommending?
  • 6/10 – Unresolved grief and unfinished business – What it means at the end of our journey.
  • 6/17 – Death with Dignity in the state of Oregon – What are the facts?
  • 6/24 – Making decisions now, how to handle our collection and belongings we leave behind.
  • 7/1 – End of life paperwork? Making sense of the advance directive, POLST, and all the other forms of paperwork.
  • 7/8 – Now is the time, let’s complete the paper. In the final session we will be working together to complete the advance directive and reduce the the “bureaucratic hurdle” at the end of life.

Hosted in collaboration with the Oregon Behavioral Health Initiative specialists located in the following counties throughout Oregon – Baker, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Hood River, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Lake Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco, and Wheeler!

      Most of the Networking Meetings are open and no RSVP needed- simply show up and start networking. Yamhill County Network, SPIN Portland, and SSN-Salem meetings.
