After months of planning and negotiation, Housecall Providers became an official member of CareOregon yesterday, but will continue as a separate nonprofit, retaining its name, current providers, patients, services and location.
This strategic partnership is designed to increase access to and enhance home-based medicine across the Portland metro area.
“Our long relationship made CareOregon the ideal choice when we began looking for a partner that could help us grow and strengthen our services,” said Terri Hobbs, Housecall Providers executive director. “We knew they shared our same goals, values and nonprofit status, and would enable us to continue as a unique entity, but with a strong, innovative partner backing us.”
Housecall Providers’ board and executive leadership were drawn to the structure and array of coordinated care services offered through CareOregon. More care options mean that the chronically ill patients served by the medical nonprofit will have their health needs addressed in a way that many have never experienced before, certainly not in a home environment. Additional support for providers allows for their patient panels to increase over time so more people will be able to take advantage of home-based medicine.
“Through this partnership, Housecall Providers will bring decades worth of experience delivering home-based medical care to an innovative health plan whose vision is for all individuals, regardless of income or social circumstances, to experience the best health possible,” Hobbs stated.

We are excited to announce that Housecall Providers and CareOregon have signed an agreement as the first step toward a strategic partnership designed to increase access to and enhance home-based medicine across the Portland metro area. We anticipate that Housecall Providers will become a nonprofit LLC in the CareOregon family on May 31.
Housecall Providers and CareOregon share similar missions, goals and a commitment to underserved populations. We welcome their expertise in helping providers develop new operational strengths and greater service integration. Housecall Providers will essentially be a separate entity, keeping our name, providers and patients, services and location.
“We are thrilled with the prospect of working more fully with CareOregon, a longtime partner that shares our mission-driven commitment to vulnerable populations,” said Terri Hobbs, Housecall Providers executive director. “We believe this partnership will assist us in caring for more chronically ill people, while strengthening our team approach to home-based medicine.”
The Oregon-based community benefits company has been involved in health plan services, reforms and innovations since 1994, serving Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) and Medicare members, and their communities.
Housecall Providers will continue to receive patients through our historical referral sources and over time, we plan to increase access to more chronically ill patients, both from CareOregon and other payers.

I am excited to share with you breaking news — Congress has included our requested $400 million increase in Alzheimer’s research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is expected to approve this increase later this week. For the second consecutive year, Congress has heard and answered the call of the Alzheimer’s Association and taken historic action.
The bipartisan congressional effort was spearheaded by Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), and Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) and comes on the heels of 1,300 advocates participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C., and intense work by our sister organization, the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM).
With this action, Alzheimer’s research funding by the federal government will reach nearly $1.4 billion. This nearly threefold increase over five years in NIH funding for Alzheimer’s disease is a monumental accomplishment. Most importantly, it continues the ramp-up to providing Alzheimer’s researchers with the resources they so urgently need if we are to achieve the 2025 objective of preventing and effectively treating Alzheimer’s.
Today’s announcement would not have happened without your relentless work. Our work together as the Alzheimer’s Association and through AIM by all of our dedicated advocates and the generous supporters of both AIM and the Association have made this next step possible. Thank you for all of your contributions to making all of our advances possible.
We have much more yet to do, but please do pause and recognize what you’ve done, what we’ve accomplished together to bring us another step closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.

Koenig Financial Group welcomes Jeff Janeway, Financial Advisor and CRPC® (Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor℠) professional who left Merrill Lynch on January 24th.
“Jeff’s practice compliments what we’ve built here at Koenig Financial Group,” says Mike Koenig, founder. “I have been wanting to add another advisor to the firm for several years, but haven’t found the right person until now. Jeff’s focus on Retirement and Estate Planning needs for seniors adds to what we are already doing, but he also brings in a depth of knowledge on values based investing for those who want their investments to be aligned with social or environmental concerns.”
“I love the work that I do,” says Janeway, who has done special training for seniors through the University of Southern California’s Davis School of Gerontology. “The financial industry is complex and to help people, especially vulnerable seniors, make good financial decisions is really satisfying.”

For those of you who have individuals who utilize the Cherriots bus system, it is important to know that on January 3rd, 2017, some routes will have different numbers but in general, will serve the same stops and areas as they currently do. What may cause confusion for individuals accessing Cherriots, are the different numbers on the bus signs and the different numbers at the bus bays at the transportation centers. For example, the current route number 1 that travels from Keizer Transit Center to South Salem will not exist any longer in the new system. Route 19 will travel down Broadway and River Road from Keizer Transit Center and the Downtown Transit Center and Route 21 will travel to South Commercial and the Downtown Transit Center in January. If anyone has any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Cherriots Customer Service or consult the Cherriots website that will be updated with the new route information 2 weeks prior to January 3rd.
