Advantage Home Care

The Grants Pass Premier Locally Owned In-Home Care Provider

Owner Christina Jackson helped establish Advantage Home Care in Grants Pass, Oregon in 1998. We are professionals who truly believe in the care model: helping seniors and disabled people be safe and comfortable, in their own homes! Our team looks forward to working alongside you and your family to design a care plan that fits your unique situation and care needs. Our priority is to find the perfect caregivers for you. We tailor our care to your needs. Whether you need two hours a month, 24 hours a day, or respite for a family caregiver, we can help! Our services include, but are not limited to, companionship, homemaking, personal care, medication assistance, transportation.

Giving You Peace Of Mind

Advantage Home Care takes on the responsibility of training, monitoring, and supervising caregivers. Independent caregivers may not have any formal medication, infection control, or safe transfer training, and do not have RN and management supervision. If your needs change, we update your schedule, care plan, and caregiver training. If a caregiver is unsatisfactory for some reason, we find a replacement for you. We are responsible and responsive to your needs. Additionally, Advantage Home Care conducts Oregon and National background checks, as well as sex offender checks and drug tests for all employees.

What Are The Necessary Steps To Establish Home Care?

Our managers gather basic information by telephone to determine whether our services are a good fit for your needs. Then we schedule a no-charge, no-obligation assessment in your home to create a care plan tailored to your needs and wishes. We value a good balance between your independence and your ability to remain safe and comfortable in your own home. We create a care plan together, then send it to third party payers, if any, for approval. We believe home care should make your life easier, and more enjoyable. Therefore, we carefully match caregivers to you, and we strive to create long-term, stable schedules.

What We Do-With a Little Help is a Licensed Home Care Agency providing in-home care to seniors.

With a Little Help provides loving and supportive home care to seniors and others with special needs with the goal of helping seniors stay active and engaged in life.
We believe excellent home care accomplishes daily tasks, creates bonds that nurture the soul and provides peace of mind to seniors and their families. The special focus we place on building rewarding relationships between seniors and our mature, dependable caregivers forms the heart of our home care company. Our caregivers happily assist with everything from meals, light housekeeping and transportation to personal care and bathing on an hourly, daily or overnight customized schedule.

With a Little Help is an award-winning, locally-owned Washington State licensed home care company proud to be serving King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties since 1999.

Problems We Solve

Seniors face unique challenges as they grow older. Let With a Little Help make those challenges a little less daunting and be a partner in the care for you or the ones you love.

Memory Loss
Caring for a loved one with memory loss due to dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is especially challenging for family members. A senior with memory loss often needs help with daily activities like medications, meals, cleaning and transportation. Our caregivers receive specific training related to helping seniors with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia and many of our caregivers have extensive experience working with people with memory loss.

Poor Nutrition and Dehydration
Lack of appetite and disinterest in meal preparation and eating affects many seniors—especially those who live alone. While eating less is often a normal part of aging, weight loss and poor nutrition can be signs of trouble. Our caregivers can prepare a healthy, home-cooked meal and, just as importantly, be a friend at the table. We can also help with meal planning, grocery shopping and preparing meals that can be reheated to last a few days.

Parkinson’s Disease
Seniors with Parkinson’s Disease face difficult physical and emotional challenges. Our caregivers are trained to support seniors by maintaining the seniors’ independence and redirecting the frustration that often comes with reduced physical ability. We also understand the importance of taking medications on time and will provide accurate reminders to reduce “off time.” We’re proud that the Seattle branch of The American Parkinson’s Disease Association has chosen With a Little Help to partner with them in their caregiver respite program. As a family caregiver, you or your loved one may qualify to receive 20 hours of free respite care from With a Little Help.

Isolation and Lack of Motivation
Seniors often spend a lot of time alone and just having some simple, loving one-on-one attention can make an amazing difference in their day. Our caregivers arrive full of ideas and activities to help keep seniors engaged and active in life. A trip to a favorite restaurant, engaging in a favorite hobby or a walk along the waterfront with a friendly companion can be just the ticket for lifting the mind and spirit. We provide encouragement and find that with a little motivation it’s amazing what seniors can do.

Caregiver Respite
When you’re taking care of a loved one, it’s easy to forget about your personal needs. Oftentimes, family caregivers wait until they’re completely overwhelmed before seeking help. Even a few hours a week of respite can make a big difference in a caregiver’s quality of life. You can rest easy knowing our caregivers will act as a friend of the family and provide a second set of eyes to watch for changes while you’re away. This will give you a chance to get out of the house for a while or spend some quiet time at home alone while our caregiver takes your loved one out.

Transportation
Giving up driving is a big loss of independence for seniors, and contributes to isolation. We help seniors maintain their lifestyle as much as possible by driving them where they need to go, whether it is getting their hair done, running errands, going out to lunch, going for a drive, or visiting friends. Our caregivers are also happy to accompany seniors to medical appointments and provide a detailed report to the family. We ensure all of our caregivers have a safe driving record and are insured.

Telecare-The Remote Safety and Health Monitoring System for Seniors
With a Little Help is breaking new ground in home care services with the introduction of Telecare, a remote monitoring system designed to help seniors and others with special needs maximize their independence and manage health conditions at home. This empowering and affordable service incorporates tools that help seniors get assistance in an emergency, manage medications, and track vital signs and biometric readings. All services are supported by our 24/7 monitoring center—with instantaneous reporting to family and care team members when anything is amiss or they simply want to review activities.

Our Telecare system features three key tools: a mobile help button, a medication dispenser and a remote monitoring component. The service is tailored to each client’s needs and care plan. The easy-to-use tools can monitor a senior’s physical activity, location, adherence to medication schedules, vital signs and biometric measurements, including lung capacity, glucose levels, blood pressure and weight information. If the system detects an abnormal reading, the 24/7 monitoring center alerts the senior and/or designated family and care team members.

Transitions in Dementia Care

About Transitions in Dementia Care

As a care partner to my wife Nancy, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2008, I experienced the challenges, blessings and miracles associated with being present to her journey with this illness. In the wake of her passing in 2012, a new calling and purpose in my life eventually emerged – to be a consultant to caregivers, and a guide to families, who are facing into a diagnosis of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.

With a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Washington, an extensive background in mediation, as well as being someone who has walked in their shoes, I am able to bring empathy, compassion and hope to individuals and families who are navigating the caregiver journey.

I am honored, and blessed, to be able to accompany individuals and families as they walk this path.

Individualized Coaching

Being a care partner to a loved one with dementia can be stressful, and trigger many emotions, ranging from anxiety and fear, to sadness and guilt. Focusing on a person-directed care approach, I help caregivers, in one-on-one sessions, learn how to be present and available to their loved ones in a way that empowers positive engagement, meaning and connection. In addition – and of critical importance – I help care partners give themselves permission to take care of themselves. A family caregiver is of no use to their loved one if they are overly stressed, tired, sick, or burned out.

Family Mediation and Facilitation Services

When a loved one is diagnosed with cognitive impairment, families can be confused, torn, and fearful around next steps. They are likely not aware of the resources available to them. Not uncommonly, they may have conflicting views around the appropriate direction and care steps moving forward.

Through the use of mediation and group facilitation processes, I create a safe and confidential container within which families can engage in what are often difficult conversations associated with the decisions and challenges they face in the care of a loved one diagnosed with dementia. Further, when family members are able to discuss their anxieties, anger, fear and guilt in an open and transparent manner, they can come to realize and understand that these commonly experienced feelings are perfectly normal.

Harbor Audiology

What We Do

Harbor Audiology & Hearing Services, Inc. is your healthcare expert for hearing evaluations in Gig Harbor, Tacoma, Port Orchard, Lakewood, Puyallup and the surrounding areas. We’ve been providing excellent customer service and quality hearing aids to our patients in Pierce County since 1998.

Our skilled staff test for and treat a wide variety of disorders and diseases to find a solution for your hearing loss, tinnitus or balance problem. We offer individual treatment, warranties, and annual screenings, as well as regular hearing aid cleanings and adjustments.

Hearing Loss Health Implications

When someone’s hearing is declining, they don’t always seek help immediately.

They can be very reluctant and embarrassed that they now have this issue, and they don’t know where to start. That’s where Harbor Audiology & Hearing Services Inc., in both Gig Harbor and Tacoma, WA, can help.

Unfortunately, many people wait too many years, even sometimes decades, before seeking treatment for their hearing loss. Some see it as a sign of weakness or they feel complacent as their hearing deteriorates.

How does untreated hearing loss affect your health?

  • Emotionally-irritability, negative thoughts, and anger. Fatigue, stress, and depression are major risks. It can also create avoidance or withdrawal from social situations.
  • Socially-untreated hearing loss can strain relationships with friends, families, and co-workers. It can cause the feeling of rejection and loneliness. Reduced alertness and increased risk to personal safety can occur as well as a decrease in job performance.
  • Mentally- impaired memory and ability to learn any new tasks. Psychological health can diminish.

Hearing loss can strike at any time and any age, even children. For the younger generations, even a mild or moderate occurrence of hearing loss could bring difficulty in learning and developing speech.Building interpersonal skills necessary for self-esteem and success in life are important.

Hearing care professionals have researched and found that the link between cognition (the act or process of knowing) and hearing acuity (sharpness). When you are listening to sounds or someone speaking, your brain is developing the sound so that you can fully understand it. If someone with untreated hearing loss tries to understand speech or sound signals, so their brain has to work harder to complete this process. While your brain is busy working to understand the speech or sound signals, other functions like memory and comprehension can suffer greatly.

Tinnitus

What is tinnitus? It’s a sensation of noise, such as ringing, buzzing, humming or hissing when no external source is present.

Is tinnitus a disease? No. Tinnitus is a symptom that often accompanies other conditions and is commonly associated with hearing loss.

What causes tinnitus? Tinnitus can be caused by exposure to loud noises, migraine headaches, head injury, anemia, hypertension, Meniere’s disease, medications and hearing loss.

Can tinnitus be treated? Yes. At Harbor Audiology, we offer several types of tinnitus treatments:

  • The SoundCure Serenade System. This technology is simple to use and can be customized specifically to your tinnitus. The system consists of a handheld device, earphones, and uses proprietary treatment sounds to address the underlying neurological cause. When used as part of an ongoing management program, it can provide immediate and long-term relief.
  • The Levo System by Otoharmonics. Designed for long-term relief, The Levo System is a personalized therapy program designed to improve tinnitus symptoms while you sleep.
