West Hills Village Senior Residence Wins 2016 Best of Senior Living Award from SeniorAdvisor.com
West Hills Village Senior Residence has been recognized with a 2016 Best of Senior Living Award from SeniorAdvisor.com, the largest ratings and reviews site for senior care and services in North America. This exclusive designation places the winners in the top one percent of senior care providers according to those who matter most, the consumers.
The annual SeniorAdvisor.com Best of Awards celebrates the best of the best in senior living and home care across the United States and Canada, drawn from the online reviews written by seniors and their families. Of the nearly 100,000 providers currently listed on SeniorAdvisor.com, slightly more than 1,000 were recognized with this award.
West Hills Village Senior Residence is one of only four winners in Portland, Oregon, and regularly receives highly positive reviews from their families like this one:
“The facility was refreshing, clean, and bright. The residents looked happy and upbeat. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. They are very attentive, and they have plenty of good activities. The food is just great. It’s a clean, well kept, nice looking community, and the staff have all been very friendly and professional.”
– Family from Portland, Oregon
“We think our beautiful environment and compassionate team members combine to make our community one of the premier senior living centers in Portland, and we are glad that the consumers of SeniorAdvisor.com agree,” said Executive Director Lindsay Schroeder. “For 27 years, our caregivers and team members have committed themselves to making our residents healthy, happy and secure, and we are proud to be recognized once again for our efforts.”
“Families are increasingly looking to online reviews to find out who truly delivers great care for our seniors, not just who claims to deliver great care,” said Eric Seifert, president of SeniorAdvisor.com. “Our SeniorAdvisor.com Awards program is all about celebrating the exceptional people who do just that. We’re honored to spread the word about these organizations whom families can entrust with the care of their senior loved ones.”
To qualify for inclusion in the Best of 2016 Awards, providers must have maintained an average overall rating of at least 4.5 stars while receiving three or more new reviews in 2015. Additional details and a complete list of award winners can be found on SeniorAdvisor.com. To see the full list of award winners by state, visit www.senioradvisor.com/awards/best-assisted-living.
Getting Back to Sleep
Sleep challenges plague us all, but especially the elderly and very young. LED lights blasting spot lights into a darkened room have recently been fingered as a major sleep deprivation culprit. Stan McKenzie of A Change is Afoot Senior Housing Consultants, and long time Senior Care advocate, has come up with a solution.
Meet Un-Lit (Un-Lit.com), a removable darkening film that softens or eliminates LED lights in the bedroom. What if a $9.95 investment was the only thing standing between cercadian natural sleep and being snaped awake every time you glance at a clock? Check out the website!

New Executive Director at Brookdale Heritage Plaza
Dear Community, Friends and Family,
After weeks of enthusiastic anticipation, on April 10, 2016, I began my first official day as Executive Director of Brookdale Heritage Plaza. As the cliché goes, “I hit the ground running.” I am honored to be a part of the Brookdale family. My own family has been a great support as I have nourished my lifelong desire to care for seniors . I have worked in Skilled, Memory Care and In-Home Hospice Care; giving me the opportunity to meet another special and unique senior with a story to tell. As the new Executive Director, I am here to serve you, so you’ll always find my door open to residents and visitors. With the dedicated staff here at our community, we enjoy developing relationships with our residents and providing a family like atmosphere. One of the greatest advantages to living in a smaller community like ours, is that we can truly make the experience all about our residents. Our staff and residents are a family enjoying everyday activities as well as significant life events together. We were recently privileged to celebrate the 101st birthday of one of our dearest residents, Mrs. Sara Oliver. With over 15 years of working hands on with seniors, to be apart of her milestone celebration was nothing short of exceptionally magical. She is thriving and still living independently here at the place she calls “home.” One of our Brookdale promises has encouraged her to do so, “As a Brookdale resident, our promise is to help you navigate the experiences of senior living in all the places life leads you.” Our goal is for you to remain in your home for the rest of your life. It shows in everything we do. Now I would like to invite you to explore “the best kept secret in Albany, OR.” Whether you are just beginning to explore your options or if you’ve made your decision and just have a few last questions, my door is always open to you. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Warm Regards,
Valarie Milam
Executive Director

Staff Gets Day Off to Bake Cookies for Caregivers
Seattle, Washington: Fedelta is showing our appreciation to our caregivers by baking, and hand-delivering cookies to each and every one of our caregivers. Our in-office team has been personally touched by the hard work our caregivers provide each and every client day-in and day-out. In addition, to show his support, the owner, Steve Meyer, has graciously given the in-office staff paid time off and the ingredients to make this possible. We wanted to make November “Caregiver Appreciation Month” special and personally thank them for providing safety, care, and compassion towards our clients.
Fedelta provides home care to seniors, people with disabilities, and patients recovering from injuries or illnesses. We know that independence, safety, and care, are at the forefront of our caregiver’s minds to help clients safely recover or maintain their independence while living at home. Our caregivers are providing that compassionate, trustworthy, and dependable care so that loved ones do not have to worry while they are at work, living in another state, or simply cannot be at home 24/7.
We know that our caregivers and clients create unique and special bonds. One of our clients, Judy M, has created a unique bond with her caregiver even inviting her to her birthday party, “I must say the most important point that I want to make is our mental well-being. Fedelta has provided me with very competent people that I’ve grown fond of.” When we hear these quotes we know that our business is a success because our caregivers are providing exceptional care considering both mental and physical needs of our clients.
