Two Homeless Veterans To Be Honored at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen
September 29, 2015- Howell, Edwards, Doerksen Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon will be honoring the lives and service of Mr. William Squire and Mr. Steven Hill Jr.  through the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veteran Burial Program.   Mr. Squire served his country in United States Air Force and passed away on August 27 at the age of 83.   Mr. Hill served his country in the United States Air Force and passed away on September 16 at the age of 40.  Both veterans have no family to care for their funeral arrangements.

Two Oregon Veterans to Receive Military Funeral Through Dignity Memorial Homeless Veteran Burial Program
May 20, 2015-  With more than 60,000 homeless veterans in the U.S., many whose remains are unclaimed at their death risk burial in paupers’ graves. Through the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program, two Oregon veterans won’t be among them.Richard Rose, died on Apr. 18, 2015 at the age of 69. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.Raymond Chatelain, died on Apr. 22, 2015 at the age of 58. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps.Both veterans will be honored with a public memorial service on Monday, June 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors, located at 1350 Commercial Street SE in Salem. A graveside service with full military honors and interment will follow on Tuesday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. for Richard Rose, and 11 a.m. for Raymond Chatelain at Willamette National Cemetery located at 11800 SE Mt Scott Blvd, in Portland.

Homeless Veteran to Receive Military Funeral
February 10, 2015-Please join us to honor the life of Dean Endres Troendly, a WWII Army Veteran, died on January 31, 2015 at the age of 90.  He was born on July 3, 1924 in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from Eugene High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served with CO A, 124th ENG Battalion. He received an honorable discharge in 1947 at Ft. Lewis, Washington at the rank of PVT.  No Family will be present at his services.Working with various local agencies, the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program ensures homeless veterans in more than 35 cities receive dignified military burials when they die. Begun in 2000, the program has served more than 1,500 veterans to date.

August 25, 2014- The Oregon Public Utility Commission has issued an urgent SCAM alert cautioning consumers about online postings offering to help them to get a free cellphone. Assurance Wireless (Virgin Mobile) and SafeLink Wireless (TracFone) are authorized to provide free cell phone service (Lifeline) in Oregon to eligible consumers. The scammers claim to be representatives for either Safelink Wireless or Assurance Wireless. However, neither company is currently using representatives in Oregon to sign up customers.

Congress Answers Alzheimer’s Association Call — $400 Million in Increased NIH Alzheimer’s Research Funding Expected to Be Finalized This Week
May 1, 2017- Congress has included our requested $400 million increase in Alzheimer’s research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is expected to approve this increase later this week. For the second consecutive year, Congress has heard and answered the call of the Alzheimer’s Association and taken historic action.

Historic Advancement for Care and Support Services Finalized
November 3, 2016 –The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized its decision to pay for cognitive and functional assessment and care planning for persons with cognitive impairment, as we proposed and advocated for years through the HOPE for Alzheimer’s Act. The decision by CMS came following the rapidly growing support you and all of our advocates and staff have generated for the HOPE Act in Congress this year, with the inclusion of the provision in the funding bill passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee.

RivALZ comes to Oregon in Oregon vs Oregon State fundraising match – June 4th

Medicare Everyone with Diabetes Counts Initiative looking for help filling upcoming DSMP Classes
November 23, 2015 — The Medicare Everyone with Diabetes Counts Initiative is working with several Oregon counties to increase access to the Diabetes Self-Management Program for Medicare beneficiaries. They have a large target for the number of beneficiaries they need to graduate from these classes. November 30, 2015 – ADRC November E-News – “Pierce County Jury Administration reports a spike in jury scams locally. These scams typically target seniors. This is not a new scam but it resurfaces from time to time. The senior gets a call from someone claiming to be an officer representing the court, insisting that an arrest warrant has been issued for failing to appear for jury duty. The then demand that the senior pay hundreds or thousands of dollars with a cashier’s check to cover the warrant and clear their name. If anyone receives such a call, hang up immediately. It’s a scam!”
